Book The Saint (The Original Sinners Book 5) Review :

I simply have to confess that I adore the character Soren, even though I was irrationally angry with him after the last book I read in this series, "The Mistress". I still have issues with the turn of events that the plot took in that book. (Sheesh...He's a fictional character???)As enraptrued as I am with Soren, the sadist priest, I am with the other two characters in the series, Nora and Kingsley. In this book, The Saint, for awhile I was not sure until well into the narrative whose cremains Nora had in her possession. I was breathless at the thought that Soren had met his demise and Nora's palpable grief and her reminiscing was because he was gone. It was only a passing thought because of course she was in Bavaria, Germany. This is where her mother had some of her happiest memories and this is where she wished to be scattered.Early on in the read, we meet Nico who is Kingsley's son. He was a result of a brief dalliance of Kingsley with Nico's mother. A large part of this book is Nora's telling of her initial encounter and early blossoming love story with Soren to Nico. There is very little plot movement in this book. The reader does not mind though. The writing is fascinating and compelling. The narrative is once again lush with description, character development and emotion. It is also most appropriately seasoned with the mention of several traditional Catholic Saints. Some of my very favorites. During the recounting of her early love affair with Soren, something new and wonderful (some may view it as shocking) is happening between Nora and Nico as well. With respect to the title of this book, the most obvious character to whom the reader will ascribe the title "The Saint" is Nora's mother who is deceased. It is well known that all Catholic Saints are deceased before they are canonized. Canonization being an ancient Catholic process of examining a person's life and finding it a sufficient example of virtue for the faithful to be elevated to Sainthood. Not one Saint lived a perfect life. All were sinners. A fact that some miss in and out of the Catholic faith. Nora discovers some truths about her mother in the end that heals her damaged heart because of a misconception she harbored about her worth to her mother.Dare I say despite the selfish kinkery and shenanigans of our main characters and even lesser characters, there is some saintly virtue in all of them. Whaaat??? How on earth can I make such bold and even counter intuitive statement? In answer, I will quote as Soren quoted St. Augustine to Nora:“‘Therefore once for all this short command is given to you—love and do what you will. If you keep silent, keep silent by love, if you speak, speak by love, if you correct, correct by love, if you pardon, pardon by love—let love be rooted in you, and from the root nothing but good can grow.’”The virtue I see in each of the characters is "love"; the courage to love; the willingness to sacrifice because of love; the willingness to let go because of love; the willingness to share because of love; the willingness to hold back, when you want to hold on greedily, because of love; the willingness to acknowledge the Divine by acknowledging "love".The longer I live, the more I read, and the more I consider things, I feel as if sex in all of its delicious, varied and naughty presentations in fiction and reality has unnecessarily taken up too much importance as a sin within the religions of the world. We now have the information to keep ourselves disease free and free from unwanted pregnancy. These were two major "punishments" in the past of sexual activity that was not within the bounds of matrimony. Why would someone's kinkier proclivities be so offensive to God? In the face of overwhelming indiscriminate violence in our society, our religions would do well to preach a more pointed message at curbing this real corruption of our society.I would be doing this author a great injustice by not mentioning how intensely and beautifully erotic her writing can be. Soren's first time with Nora had me dreaming about the darker arts in lovemaking. Of course that is the joy and entertainment in the fantasy of well-penned fiction. Believe me, Ms. Reisz writes some well-penned fiction. Truth. Once again, I fell in love with this God-like sadist priest. I also love the teenage Eleanor. I love her passion, her mind, and her sense of wonder at the sensual discoveries about herself she made. I really love her smart mouth, especially when she first met Kingsley.I took a week off from this series and I was happy to return. These characters insinuate themselves in your subconscious. This writer has a rare talent. The value in her writing gifts are not overrated by any measure. I look forward to these characters accompanying me for a good long time as I read through the end of the series and all the novellas in between. Once you're hooked...you are hooked. I am not complaining and neither will any reader who appreciates the fullness and lushness of a thickly woven and multicolored tapestry of characters developing in an ever expanding story.
This was the beginning to an epic tale of love beyond measure. I can't tell you how much I LOVE this series, and to be able to live through how it all started just made it feel even more like a gift. Søren, Elle and Kinglsey are larger than life, there will never be anyone like them and there will never be a story such as theirs.BDSM is not what they do, but it's who they are, very much ingrained as part of their soul.Nothing could have prepared me for their first kiss...nothing could have prepared me for their first time. It was beautiful, a true union of mated souls and I couldn't have imagined it any other way.The Saint was intoxicating, there really is not other word to describe it, I was a bit hesitant delving deeper into their minds, but in the end I found my worries were for naught. I feel like it just solidified everything I felt and more. Regardless that it was a story that was re-told, it still felt like I traveled back to that time, living each moment with them. There is so much to this story, love, light, pain, darkness, humor and banter making it truly unforgettable!
